Director James Gunn has revealed new details about the sequel to his summer blockbuster, titled Man of Tomorrow. According to Gunn, the film will begin shooting in April 2026 and is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. Unlike the first film, the sequel will not just focus on Superman but will give equal importance to his iconic nemesis, Lex Luthor.
A Complicated Partnership
Gunn explained that the story will feature Superman, played by David Corenswet, and Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, working together against a greater threat. “It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” he said, adding that he relates to the character of Lex. Gunn also revealed that the script for Man of Tomorrow is mostly complete and that he has finished the treatment for the third installment of the “Superman Saga.”
Upcoming DC Films
Before the release of Man of Tomorrow, DC Studios has two other films on its slate: Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, which is set to premiere on June 26, 2026, and Clayface, directed by James Watkins, set for September 11, 2026.
